The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is an independent statutory office established to protect the rights and interests of adults with impaired decision making capacity, and children and young people in the child protection system and other visitable sites.

The team and the business unit

The People and Engagement Team provides expert human resources advice and support to OPG staff and managers across the full employee lifecycle, so our employees are safe, well, committed, valued and engaged. The purpose of the Corporate Services business unit is to provide specialist and administrative support to frontline business areas, enabling those business areas to provide excellence in customer service.

Your key responsibilities

  • Maintain a sound knowledge of contemporary HR management practices to provide high level advice and interpretation on a broad range of HR management policies, directives, legislation, systems and processes. 
  • Prepare and coordinate reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence as well as responses to workforce trends and staffing matters which supports organisational requirements. 
  • Provide high level advice on employee relations matters to support management to address sensitive and emergent issues. 
  • Lead and support the development and capability of team members and managers on a range of workforce management issues to achieve optimal business outcomes and objectives.  
  • Manage projects and support the Manager, Corporate Services in the development and implementation of workforce planning initiatives, strategies and best practice policies and procedures that supports performance and builds workforce capability. 
  • Scope required systems to support HR activities. 
  • Develop networks with DoJ HR, Public Service Commission and other relevant agencies and represent the OPG at relevant inter-agency meetings, forums and committees.
