About the role
As Director, Financial Services, you will provide strategic and operational leadership of the department's financial management function, supporting strong financial stewardship, governance and performance across the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and its portfolio agencies.
Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of finance professionals responsible for statutory and whole‑of‑government financial reporting, compliance with the Queensland Government's financial legislative framework, and the delivery of high‑quality financial advice and analysis to senior executives. You will partner closely with executive leaders to support informed decision‑making, effective governance and long‑term financial sustainability.
The role is accountable for overseeing and continuously improving financial policies, systems, delegations and business processes to ensure they remain contemporary, fit‑for‑purpose and aligned with departmental objectives, legislative requirements and applicable accounting standards. A key focus of the role is driving a modern, client‑focused service delivery model that strengthens capability, service excellence and continuous improvement across Financial Services.
Key responsibilities
Lead the department's compliance with the Queensland Government's financial legislative and policy framework, including maintaining an effective financial internal control environment.
Provide strategic, independent and evidence‑based financial advice to executive
management, including preparation of governance papers and briefings for senior
committees.
Deliver statutory and whole‑of‑government financial reporting requirements, including annual financial statements, budget documentation and external reporting obligations.
Manage external relationships with third‑party service providers and oversee regulatory compliance activities to ensure timely and accurate outcomes.
Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation and service excellence.
Drive continuous improvement and a contemporary, centre‑led and client‑focused approach to financial services delivery.
