In the role of Manager (Vehicle Policy) you will be leading a small multidisciplinary team to deliver a program of policy and legislative reform that is high profile and of critical importance to vehicle safety in Queensland. You will need to balance the needs of various stakeholders, apply critical thinking and leverage subject matter experts to provide robust advice. This role will be complex, challenging and rewarding - important work usually is.

Key responsibilities
• Apply significant policy experience to lead complex policy reform projects to ensure that Queensland's vehicle safety and identification framework meets the needs of the community and industry into the future.
• Manage and coordinate team resources, in a dynamic and evolving environment, to ensure that desired business outcomes, performance indicators, project deliverables and deadlines are achieved.
• Provide specialist policy and legislative advice to the Minister, the Director- General, senior departmental executives, other jurisdictions and stakeholders on issues which may have significant political, community and business impacts.
• Develop and maintain effective networks, consult and negotiate with internal and external clients, industry groups, and other government agencies (federal, state and local), the general public and other stakeholders as required.
• Prepare and oversee the development of complex documents including briefing notes, cabinet submissions, and strategic policy papers, as well as correspondence on behalf of the Minister and TMR.
• Lead and coordinate the drafting and maintenance of a number of significant contracts and memorandums of understanding with key departmental stakeholders.

Requirements of the role:
• Extensive experience and expertise in policy and legislative reform, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex policy initiatives, including using critical thinking, providing robust advice and engaging broadly
• Proven experience of being a strategic leader, by being a critical thinker and acting on the broader purpose of the system
• Highly skilled in making insightful decisions. An ability to make considered, ethical and courageous decisions based on insight into the broader context
• Demonstrated experience engaging with and negotiating across a broad range of stakeholders, including those with divergent or conflicting interests, to resolve issues, manage risk and deliver agreed outcomes
• Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, including setting clear direction, fostering a positive and inclusive culture, and supporting high performance through coaching, feedback and development
