Working alongside a midwife, you will deliver high-quality, culturally safe care, provide health education, and support families within an Advanced Health Worker scope across clinic, hospital, and home settings.
As the Advanced Indigenous Health Worker you will be passionate about empowering families during pregnancy and the postnatal period and committed to culturally respectful care.

About us:
Gumma Gundoo Indigenous Maternal and Infant Outreach provide care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women or women with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander child. The service provides care for the mother and the infant during pregnancy and the early weeks after birth.
About the role:
Join the Gumma Gundoo program as an Advanced Indigenous Health Worker and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families through pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal journey. Working side-by-side with Midwives, you'll deliver culturally safe, woman-centred care in clinics, hospitals, homes, and out in the community.
In this rewarding role, you'll:
- Support mums and families through pregnancy, birth, and beyond
- Provide culturally appropriate care alongside Midwives
- Offer outreach and optional birth support
- Deliver fun and engaging health promotion and education
- Conduct social and emotional wellbeing screening
- Assist with infant care assessments across multiple settings

About you:
- Appointment, and future increment progression, between paypoints HWF3.1 to 5 requires:
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
- Appointment, and future increment progression, between paypoints HWF3.2 to HWF3.7, or HWF3.8 (limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23) requires:
- Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
- Applicants who do not hold the mandatory qualification requirements, but believe they have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the role as outlined, and will commit to completing the qualification(s) within an agreed timeframe if appointed, are encouraged to apply for this vacancy.
- Under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $76,450 p.a. is comprised of:
- An hourly rate between $39.00 - $53.64 p.h
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
