Invasive species are the greatest threat to Queensland’s protected area values and their effective management is vital for the conservation of Queensland’s ecosystems, threatened species, and cultural and visitor values and experiences. The Pest Services team sits within the Technical Services branch of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services and Partnerships (QPWS&P), the team provides strategic and technical services to operational and management staff and advice regarding the agency’s internal and external legislative and custodial responsibilities as they relate to the management of invasive species.

You will assist in the development and upkeep of internal pest policy and technical guidance for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), to ensure our staff implement best practice pest management safely and in accordance with the relevant legislation. You will help review information from across QPWS&P pest management activities to identify opportunities for improvement and compliance with standards; managing information resources used by ranger staff engaged in pest management and other duties related to the pest program. You with work with operation, technical and management staff in QPWS&P and with other government agencies and external organisations. Travel to regional locations will be required from time to time.
The team plays an important role in program governance, ensuring that invasive species management activities are well planned and informed by best available information.
