Parliamentary Services is seeking a capable and community‑minded Assistant Electorate Officer (Part Time) to join Mr Terry James MP, Member for Mulgrave, based in the Mulgrave Electorate Office in Gordonvale via Cairns. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support parliamentary and community operations while working closely with a small, dedicated team.

Key Objectives

  • Provide high‑level administrative and diary support to the Member and Electorate Officer.
  • Deliver responsive, professional service to constituents and community stakeholders.
  • Support the effective day‑to‑day operation of the electorate office.

Your Role

  • Manage and triage a busy inbox, responding to correspondence efficiently.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Member's diary, including meetings, events and appointments.
  • Assist with the daily operations of the electorate office.
  • Liaise with constituents seeking information or assistance with government matters.
  • Support and engage with community groups and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake IT support, research and administrative tasks as required.
  • Manage financial obligations in line with legislation and Parliamentary Services policies.
  • Compile, publish and distribute newsletters and surveys.
  • Work collaboratively with the Electorate Officer to support parliamentary duties.

What We're Looking For

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a small team environment.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in administration, communications or public relations.

This is a permanent part‑time opportunity, working 13.5 Hours per week, ideal for candidates looking to make a meaningful contribution to their local community.
