The role:
Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, the Principal Technical Specialist will play a technical lead role in the implementation and management of the Queensland Health's Check Point firewall replacements and upgrades for the Cyber Security Program. This role will provide technical implementation skills, analysis, and expert advice on firewall infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, compliance, and security.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the build, configuration and implementation of new Check Point firewalls, including F5 load balancers by working closely with project and BAU teams to transition new Gateways capability into operations.
- Ensure compliance and optimal performance of enterprise service levels by managing and performing the dissemination and implementation of policies, processes and standards for technical configuration of the firewall infrastructure.
- Provide subject matter expertise regarding checkpoint firewall support including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Contribute expert advice and analysis on current and future security requirements.
- Provide comprehensive support during planned ICT changes and updates, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum security.

- Proven detailed understanding and working knowledge of relevant technical domains.
- Checkpoint Firewalls, Smart Consoles and Firewall Management Architectures
- F5 Load Balancers
- Security Networking technologies
- Gateway Technologies such as Proxies and Secure Web Gateways
- Demonstrated detailed analytical, conceptual and problem management skills with a proven record in the assessment and evaluation of technical requirements within a complex information and communication technology environment.
- Proven ability to participate in a highly skilled technical team providing high-level technical direction, standardisation and support of enterprise infrastructure in a large customer focused organisation.
- Demonstrated ability or the ability to quickly learn ServiceNow application and ITIL Service Management processes, primarily incident/problem/change/configuration management).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with multiple key internal projects, Operations and external technology vendor stakeholders by the use of high level written and interpersonal consultations, negotiation and communication skills including the ability to influence others.
- Ability to work individually and within a high-performance team with time critical and financially constrained tasks and complex deliverables by providing guidance to technical resources in the team.
- Proven ability to participate in and/or lead a highly skilled technical team providing high-level technical direction, standardisation and support of enterprise infrastructure in a large customer focused organisation.
- Demonstrate high level research and advice regarding emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of system design, management and support.
- Demonstrate ability to provide third level support and technical implementation and subject matter expertise across the firewall replacement projects.
