Based in Brisbane City, this AO6 Senior Policy Officer role supports the development of strategic that responds to the challenges and opportunities for the Queensland resources sector. This role suits a strong policy professional who enjoys complex problem solving and collaborative work that delivers outcomes for Queensland’s resources sector.

The Georesources division capitalises on Queensland’s minerals, coal, petroleum and gas resources. Mining is the number one wealth generating sector in the state and the work done in this division plays a key role in regulating the resources sector, while also supporting industry development and sector growth. As a Senior Policy Officer (AO6) in Georesources Policy, you will contribute to the development of contemporary policy that that responds to the challenges and opportunities for the Queensland resources sector. Working within a small, specialist team, your work will inform Government decision‑making and support effective regulation and industry development across the resources sector.

In this role you will research and analyse complex strategic, regulatory and legislative issues and translate evidence into clear, practical advice. You will prepare high‑quality briefing notes, submissions, reports, correspondence and other material for senior executives and Ministers. You will also lead or contribute to projects, collaborate across government and with industry and non‑government stakeholders, and represent the department in meetings, committees and interdepartmental working groups.

Success in this role looks like timely, well‑reasoned advice, strong written communication, and constructive relationships that enable shared policy outcomes. You will manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement and contribute positively to a professional, inclusive team environment.
