Role details

The Mental Health Inpatient Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Patient Flow Coordinator (Clinical Nurse) to join their team on a Permanent basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse (Patient Flow Coordinator) provides advanced level clinical skills to ensure patient-focused evidence-based nursing care, coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care, and provides leadership and support to other nursing staff within the Mental Health Inpatient Unit. The activities are predominantly clinical in nature, but also provide support to the Nurse Grade 7 or above in management activities within the Division of Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug Services and will:

  • Provide professional guidance, leadership and support to nursing, medical and other professionals in the principles of decision making.
  • The Clinical Nurse role will utilise advanced clinical skills and professional decision making to deliver a safe and efficient patient journey across the care continuum through the reduction of service fragmentation, educating and empowering individuals and coordinating patient care in a positive way.

Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Service

The Mental Health and AOD Service is comprised of eight clinical teams across the MHHS. The Mental Health Service is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, specialised mental health assessment and treatment services across the age-spectrum for people with severe and complex mental health problems. Our services aim to be consumer focused and recovery oriented and are provided in a variety of settings including community, an acute inpatient unit, hospitals and emergency departments.

Mental Health Inpatient Unit

The Mental Health Inpatient Unit provides care to people who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness. If a person is admitted to an acute inpatient unit, it is often because their mental illness is not manageable in a less restrictive setting, such as community-based support.
