The Senior Project Officer will work closely with staff across Science Division to improve the communication and translation of enironmental and digital science products that support decision making, policy, programs and initiatives. This includes providing advice and support on how to translate complex science into impactful key messages, as well as designing, planning and executing external and internal events and programs aligned with departmental strategy. In collaboration with the Division's science teams, this role will develop targeted extension, translation and engagement strategies for both internal and external users of the science products. In this role, you will reg ularly interact with the Water and Catchments and Coastal, Biodiversity & Information, Executive Directors, Directors and Science Leaders, as well as the Principal Science Advisor, Office of the Deputy Director-General, Chief Scientist Coordination and Engagement team and DETSI's Corporate Communications and Public Engagement branch and as well as strategic external partners. The position reports to the Manager, Science Engagement and Impact.



The role:
As the Senior Project Officer, you will:
• Lead business development, as well as stakeholder and community engagement projects and activities to support effective communication and brokerage of science services.
• Identify opportunities for greater engagement with clients, and contribute to stronger collaborative partnerships with government agencies, industry and research organisations through effective liaison, consultation and regular communication.
• Develop and deliver targeted information about applied science portfolios to increase visibility of its scientific capability and services.
• Coordinate a portfolio of events and engagement programs from conception to evaluation which raise the profile of DETSI science in Queensland and help the Division's scientists to engage with the wider community.
• Liaise with DETSI Communications and Public Engagement team to support the generation of media and social media stories, develop web content, request graphic design of products, and ensure compliance with corporate style guides and requirements.
• Support communication and science engagement capacity building for Science Division staff.
• Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace that is free from bullying, discrimination and harassment.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver projects to achieve quality business development, stakeholder engagement and collaboration outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt communication approaches to the audience to effectively communicate scientific information.
• Ability to support other staff to deliver improved communications outcomes.
• Well-developed interpersonal communication, consultation, negotiation and liaison skills, and the capacity to build effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge and experience of environmental/natural resource science sectors.
• Demonstrate how you can support our commitment to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.
