About your opportunity

The Townsville University Hospital is a 600 plus bed hospital. The General Surgery department is currently staffed by 4 Staff Consultants and 5 VMOs with 5 training positions in General Surgery.

There is a wide range of General Surgical procedures performed with Surgeons having subspecialty interests. Sub specialty referrals are received from other centres in North Queensland.

The hospital has an intensive care unit, radiology department with interventional capability and the full range of Surgical and Medical specialty groups.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a temporary full-time position, commencing 02/02/2026 - 31/01/2027.

Requirements:

    • Qualified as a medical practitioner and current registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
    • Accepted into recognised vocational college training program relevant to the speciality.
    • If appointee is not accepted into a recognized vocational college training program – employment will only be as a Principal House Officer and remuneration will be at PHO Level per fortnight (L4-L7).

Competitive salary and benefits:

    • Salary range: $5130.40 to $5931.50 p.f. (L4-L9)
    • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
    • 4 weeks annual leave + 17.5% leave loading
    • Locality allowance
    • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available
