Make a real difference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families

In this meaningful role, you will support young people and their families by providing culturally safe, respectful and community‑informed care. You will work closely with clinicians, Elders, families and community organisations to help young people feel understood, supported and connected.

About the role

As a key member of the Cultural Assessment and Liaison Team, you will:

  • Support cultural assessments and contribute to culturally appropriate care planning
  • Build strong relationships with families, carers and community organisations
  • Provide cultural advice and guidance to the broader Child and Youth Mental Health Service team
  • Help young people feel safe, heard and supported throughout their care journey

Your work will strengthen cultural safety, improve engagement, and support better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people accessing mental health services.

  • Base salary range: $77,342 to $106,358 p.a.

Requirements:

Under s25 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

You will hold one of the following qualifications:

For appointment between HWF3.1 – HWF3.5:

  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, OR
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, OR
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health, OR
  • Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs

For appointment between HWF3.2 – HWF3.7 (or HWF3.8 limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23):

  • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, OR
  • Diploma of Mental Health, OR
  • Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs

Suitable applicants without the Certificate IV may be appointed temporarily at the HWF3 (no qualification) level, with support to complete the required qualification under HR Policy G10 (SARAS). Once completed, the appointee will progress to a permanent HWF3.1.
