The Innisfail work unit is seeking a Wildlife Ranger who is able to work collaboratively in a team.

This role’s focus area is the management of cassowaries, crocodiles and other native wildlife in the Cassowary Coast Region and the greater Far North. Wildlife Rangers provide a range of services, including advice, assessment and auditing of permits and other authorities under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. The activities can be physically demanding and include survey and monitoring of threatened species in the field, emergency wildlife response, maintenance of field equipment and safety systems, and education and training.

A broad skill set in operational tasks and equipment use and maintenance, along with proficient administrative skill set would be ideal.

Wildlife Rangers are an integral part of the units within the Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations, QPWS & Partnerships and provide a range of services, including advice, assessment and auditing of permits and other authorities under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and subordinate legislation and operational delivery of services to conserve and protect wildlife and associated habitat.

The Branch plays a vital role in delivering effective conservation and regulatory outcomes for Queensland's native species and ecosystems and their safe interaction with the community generally.

The Wildlife Ranger role advertised is part of the Northern Wildlife Operations team. The team operates in the Innisfail region, Queensland to deliver services to conserve and protect native and threatened wildlife and associated habitat—with particular focus on:

• regulation of the Nature Conservation Act to deliver protected wildlife compliance and  enforcement
• providing safe interaction between people and wildlife
• working with the community to build positive interactions between community and wildlife
• applied research to assist in the development of innovative wildlife management strategies

This role's focus area is the management of cassowaries and crocodiles and other native wildlife in the cassowary coast region and the greater far north. The activities can be physically demanding and include survey and monitoring of threatened species in the field, emergency wildlife response, maintenance of field equipment and safety systems, and education and training.

Wildlife Rangers in the Northern Region Operations have a focus on wildlife management. This includes working with crocodiles, cassowaries and flying-foxes. This may require safely responding to isolated and remote situations in North Queensland for extended periods of time. Tasks are likely to include operating communication and navigational systems, undertaking equipment repair, and the use of environmental indicators to make decisions. You may be required to undertake short term stays in remote locations with little or no facilities available.
