Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Planning, Disaster Management Branch (DMB), the purpose of the role of Principal Project Officer is to undertake activities relevant to the development and maintenance of Queensland Health's agency preparedness and response capability for disasters and emergency incidents.

What you'll do:

In this role, you'll drive meaningful improvement across disaster management by reviewing systems and procedures, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing changes in alignment DMB's goals. You'll take the lead on disaster‑management projects, guiding teams and stakeholders through Queensland Health's project management methodologies to deliver real impact. Your work will shape the future of health disaster preparedness as you research, analyse and develop forward‑thinking strategies that strengthen organisational learning and capability. You'll also play a key role in influencing senior decision‑makers by preparing clear, compelling reports, briefs, submissions, options papers, proposals and presentations that support confident, strategic choices during disaster and emergency events.

Role fit:

We're looking for someone who demonstrates high level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders to form collaborative solutions and implement appropriate strategic responses. You will have the ability to lead the review and implementation of disaster management related projects, using project management methodologies, and have a demonstrated knowledge of contemporary principles of disaster management. Prioritisation and time management skills are essential to the Principal Project Officer role.
