The role of Senior Service Support Officer is to implement and coordinate a range of group and individual program activities to address the causes of young people’s offending and responding to their support needs within an overarching goal reducing the overrepresentation of Indigenous young people in contact with the youth justice system.

The Senior Service Support Officer works in collaboration with Team Leaders and Caseworkers to ensure that programs and services are delivered in accordance with case plans and fulfil the statutory requirements of youth justice orders.

As the Senior Service Support Officer, you will specifically:

    • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
    • Undertake culturally appropriate assessment, planning and interventions for young people and their families.
    • Develop and conduct programs and services to young people subject to a youth justice intervention.
    • Implement intervention strategies through negotiation with service providers and linking clients to the service/supports they require (including formal and informal services, government and non-government agencies).
    • Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including compiling and maintaining community directories and protocols, case notes and records, preparation of reports, performance reporting and entry to ensure casework and organisational accountability. Oversee the organsiation, participation and data recording of multi-community interagency meetings.
    • Consult and effectively work with relevant stakeholders including families, elders, other key community members, community agencies and government departments to enhance their capacity to support young people and their families.
    • Provide culturally appropriate supervision and leadership to program staff and oversee program team meetings and agendas. Participate and contribute as required to the Remote YJSC leadership team meetings and decision making.
    • Participate productively and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in delivering programs and services to clients.
    • Actively participate in and contribute to the good governance and objectives of the directorate and department.
