Senior Water Planning Officer (PO4) temporary opportunity until June 2028.
Operating from within the South Region Water Planning and Science team, the Senior Water Planning Officer will be involved in the development of innovative management solutions and policy for the development of Water Plans, Water Management Protocols and other policy relating to the efficient and sustainable management of Queensland’s water resources.

In the role of Senior Water Planning Officer, you will utilise your experience and knowledge and play a pivotal role to support efficient and sustainable management of Queensland's water resources.

We are looking for someone that can:
• Lead staff and small teams and coordinate water planning activities within a Region, including coordinating input from associated multi-disciplinary teams to ensure delivery of water planning functions and business objectives.
• Support communication, consultation and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders and community in the delivery of water planning and science initiatives including facilitating stakeholder input for the development and implementation of water plans.
• Interpret and apply legislation, specifically the Water Act 2000 and associated subordinate legislation, regulation and policy, to achieve water planning and management outcomes.
• Prepare and provide timely and accurate advice on project actions, complex briefs, reports and other policy documentation.
• Participate in regional and state-wide project teams to progress water business objectives.
• Prepare and review policy papers, briefing notes, Cabinet submissions, Governor - in-Council documentation, and other correspondence as required.
• Have oversight of team outputs, including reports and correspondence to ensure quality outcomes, sound conclusions and consistent application of water management policy and legislation.
• Review water policy and planning proposals, identify risks and provide recommendations to support their implementation.
• Represent the department in a range of community and water user forums.
• Actively promote a positive team culture by supporting team members and sharing information.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or similar)
Other: Travel away from home may be required on occasions, holding a "C" class
QLD drivers licence is also desirable.
Location: Brisbane or Toowoomba
