About us:
Welcome to Capricornia Offender Health Service (COHS), where we deliver top-quality healthcare to prisoners at Capricornia Correctional Centre (CCC), Capricornia Correctional Farm (CCF) and prisoner workcamps. We care for a fluctuating population of around 1,028 male prisoners, with diverse needs — from urgent emergencies to long-term chronic care and preventative health programs.
We operate from a comprehensive primary health care model, supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team that guides our clients from the moment they enter the system, through transfers and all the way to their release into the community. We're all about tailored, responsive care and prioritising those who need it most, tackling health gaps head-on.
Our focus includes promoting healthy living, preventing disease and injury, treating illness, managing chronic conditions, and supporting rehabilitation and advocacy. All of this happens within the secure environment of a correctional facility, designed to keep everyone safe while making a real difference.
About the role:
Are you a passionate nurse ready to lead and deliver person-centred care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment? As a Registered Nurse (RN) at Capricornia Offender Health Service, you'll be at the forefront of making a real difference — providing high-quality, holistic care based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia standards.
This role is perfect for someone who's moving beyond the basics, exercising greater autonomy, and using their professional judgment to ensure the best outcomes for our prisoners. You'll be a leader in coordinating care, helping educate others, and contributing to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. You'll work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and health education; all with a focus on early intervention, harm minimization, and managing prisoners on opioid dependence programs. Your holistic approach will include everything from health promotion and education to referrals for specialised care.
About you:
- You hold a current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a valid annual practising certificate.
- You can provide proof of your qualifications and registration, including certified copies, before you jump into clinical duties — because we like to keep everything above board!
- You have solid, evidence-based clinical skills and knowledge in your area of practice, ready to handle whatever comes your way.
- You practice within the Nursing and Midwifery Board competency domains, ensuring your practice is always top-notch.
- You excel at building trusting, therapeutic relationships with patients, making them feel heard, cared for and supported.
