Principal Legal Officer

Your role in Corporate Services supports the department in delivering housing assistance, homelessness services, local government advice, state and regional planning, public works design, and industry regulatory reform. The work you do helps someone every day, and that means the world to us.
The Legal Services team provides independent legal advice and representation on construction, commercial, and public administration matters, while also assisting with legislative development. The unit manages public administration issues, including
right to information and privacy.
As Principal Legal Officer, you will help protect the department’s legal interests, particularly in property, contractual, and commercial matters.

• Providing and ensuring the provision of superior level, strategic, independent and professional legal advice and documentation to all levels of the department on property law, commercial law, and/or administrative law matters.
• Maintaining a superior level of knowledge of contemporary issues impacting on property law and commercial law and their relationship with relevant government policies and initiatives.
• Assisting in the department's development and administration of efficient and effective policy and legislative frameworks, by providing legal and risk research and advice.
• Liaising and negotiating effectively with relevant internal and external stakeholders on matters affecting the operations of the departments.
• Providing superior level independent advice regarding dispute resolution and the management of litigation relating to property and commercial law, on behalf of the departments and the State.
• Guiding support staff and supervising the work of lawyers where required.
• Other duties as directed.
