Who We Are:

Townsville Community Learning Centre - A State Special School (TCLC) caters for students who are primarily Intellectually Impaired from Prep to school leaving age.

Teacher Aides work as a part of a team with teachers and allied health teams to support students with high support needs and disabilities.

Our students also may have other disabilities such autism spectrum disorder, vision, hearing, physical and speech/language etc.

Step Into Your Next Chapter: 

Onsite training provided for specialised health support for students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting teachers and students with sporting activities and with school excursions.
  • Assisting with the management and stocktaking of equipment and resources.
  • Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.
  • Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student's development.

The Perfect Fit:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain productive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Clear, effective communication to instruct small groups or individuals.
  • Adaptability to cater for a wide range of student needs.
  • Respect and empathy for students with high-level needs.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and in first aid/emergency situations.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, tact and sensitivity when working with students and families.
  • Reliability, initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Certificate III in Education Support / Disability Support or similar is advantageous but not mandatory
