Principal Finance Officer

Arts Queensland (AQ), now part of Department of Education, is looking for a permanent full-time Principal Finance Officer (AO7) to come work for us.

The successful applicant will provide support to the Financial Strategy and Reporting Manager as part of the Arts Business Services (ABS) unit.

You will also provide reliable, relevant support and analysis to a complex range of stakeholders in relation to budget, financial and other operational issues.

This will include the preparation and analysis of proactive financial reports across a range of business areas to support critical decision making and strategic planning for grants management.

This position is essential in being able to work collaboratively and proactively as a team to offer our stakeholders a high standard of finance and customer service support.

About You
The successful candidate will:

  • Identify emerging strategic issues that may impact on the activities of Arts Queensland and coordinating the development of management approaches to problem solve and take action.
  • Lead the development and continuous monitoring of the budget and reporting process, ensuring the process accurately captures issues and strategies across the business to support senior management.
  • Review the monthly results and work collaboratively with the team to ensure the month end process is completed within Department timeframes.
  • Utilise suitable reporting tools to provide timely, proactive, and concise monthly financial management reporting for Arts Queensland senior management with supporting analysis that provides relevant commentary that identifies the risks and opportunities.
  • Provide the Financial Strategy and Reporting Manager and Arts Business Services Director with financial advice, analysis and information to support the delivery of efficient, accurate, and timely financial information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a business partner culture by developing strong stakeholder relationships to better understand business areas, providing targeted cooperative solution support and options for the financial and budget management practices and issues across the Agency.
  • Proactively liaise with stakeholders to identify and effectively manage risk in timely manner.
  • Research, develop, implement and promote solutions to improve business system practices and workflows in consultation with other stakeholders and staff that will deliver better outcomes for customers and clients.
  • Maintain reconciliations to ensure integrity of grants budget management across Technology One, Smarty Grants and Frames.
  • Contribute to the delivery of accounting services by the Unit to ensure the Department's statutory obligations are met within prescribed deadlines.

  • Salary: $133,603 - $143,126 p.a. + 12.75% super

  • Please note as part of pre-employment checks, suitable candidates may be required to undertake:
    • A criminal history check under section 52of the Public Sector Act (PSA) 2022
    • Complete a serious discipline history check (if required) under section 71 of the PSA
    • Disclose any interest/s that conflict, may conflict or may be perceived to conflict with the discharge of their duties in accordance with Division 2 of the PSA.
