An exciting opportunity exists to join Integrated Medicine, Emergency, Child and Youth Services as an Executive Support Officer. In this role, you will provide high-level executive and administrative support to Directors, including diary and email management, coordination of meetings, preparation of correspondence and reports, and support for governance and operational activities within a complex healthcare environment.

About us:

Integrated Medicine, Emergency, Child and Youth Services (IMECY) within Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service delivers coordinated, patient‑centred care across acute medicine, emergency services, and child and youth health programs. The service supports timely assessment, treatment and transition of care through multidisciplinary collaboration. IMECY plays a critical role in providing high‑quality services to the diverse urban, rural and remote communities of Far North Queensland.

Cairns Hospital is the largest major hospital in Far North Queensland, caring for patients from the Mossman/Port Douglas to Tully in the south and out to Croydon in the west. 

Our population is 260,000 with First Nations people making up 14% of the region's population. Cairns Hospital provides a range of specialist outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services from its CBD site on the Cairns Esplanade. The hospital has 506 inpatient beds and 53 emergency department treatment spaces, 16 ICU beds, 22 special care nursery beds, 48 inpatient mental health beds and 25 maternity beds.

Cairns offers a widely-varied lifestyle in a tropical environment boasting several local landmarks and is the perfect base from which to explore the tropical north. Popular activities include exploring the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree rainforest, as well as the Atherton Tablelands to the west of town and the Port Douglas region to the north. Cairns is also a well-known venue for sporting events, such as mountain biking competitions and marathon festivals.

About your role:

  • Provide high level/quality, proficient and confidential administrative / executive support to the department and division in a mature and professional manner which ensures the integrity and efficiency of the Office.
  • Liaise with Queensland Health executives and other Queensland Health staff, government bodies (i.e. Police, Ambulance, Immigration, Councils) private organisations, union officials, HQCC and members of the public using discretion with sensitive and / or confidential matters and develop ongoing relationships.
  • Acquire and maintain a broad understanding of the political and social environment and maintain current knowledge of issues relating to the Department of Medicine and matters affecting the management of the Division/Hospital and Health Service.
  • Undertake research, prepare, collate and format high-quality written correspondence. This may include correspondence such as letters, memorandums, emails, briefing notes, business cases, power point presentations and financial reports utilising appropriate corporate templates and within the necessary time frame.
