The Public Health Nurse position sits within the Communicable Diseases Branch. The Communicable Diseases Branch (CDB) provides expert strategic direction in the prevention, early response and control of communicable diseases to protect the health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders. The work of CDB is underpinned by a strong focus on addressing health inequalities, particularly for vulnerable populations and groups, and a commitment to closing the health gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About the role:

The Public Health Nurse role provides specialised public health nursing expertise to support the strategic design, implementation and evaluation of communicable disease prevention and control initiatives.

As a Public Health Nurse, you will provide expert public health nursing knowledge and advice on communicable diseases to the public and other key stakeholders in consultation with the CDB Senior Medical Officers, Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing. You will also Effectively lead and coordinate, public health programs including developing, actioning and managing strategic policies, procedures and guidelines relevant to the prevention and control of communicable diseases.

Other key responsibilities include:

• Establish and maintain effective partnerships with health services, government agencies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and other stakeholders to support public health outcomes.
• Contribute to the development and review of statewide and interagency strategic and operational plans.
• Provide expert public health nursing knowledge and advice in the planning, response, coordination and management of communicable disease incidents or events of statewide significance.
• Participate in the development and sustainability of a culture of learning that supports a capable, skilled and educated nursing workforce.
