About us:

At Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, it's all about delivering care that's safe, high-quality, and centred around people, not just processes. Patients are partners in their own care, with a strong focus on better outcomes, better experiences, and real value for everyone involved.

The Transit Lounge at Gladstone Hospital is where the magic of patient flow happens. It's a calm, supportive space for clinically stable patients as they get ready to head home or move on to the next stage of their care. Think of it as the hospital's smooth transition hub; helping free up beds, reduce wait times, and make sure everyone is exactly where they need to be, right when they need to be there.

Patients might be wrapping up treatments, waiting for transport, or finalising discharge plans, and your role helps make that experience comfortable, safe, and stress-free. The Transit Lounge works across all adult specialties, so you'll be part of something that keeps the entire hospital running efficiently.

It's fast-paced, people-focused, and genuinely rewarding. Perfect if you like being where things are happening and making a difference in real time.

About the role:

In this role, you'll be right in the action, delivering hands-on, evidence-based care as part of the Transit Lounge Team, all while being supported by a Registered Nurse. You'll play a key role in helping patients transition smoothly through their hospital journey, using up-to-date nursing practices and your growing clinical expertise.

You'll build your confidence every shift, strengthening your skills as you move from early career to more experienced practice. Along the way, you'll collaborate with patients, families, and a wide range of health professionals to plan and deliver care that's safe, thoughtful, and tailored to each individual.

Safety and quality are at the heart of what you do, and you'll actively contribute to maintaining high standards by following best practice guidelines, identifying risks, and getting involved in quality improvement activities. You'll also support your teammates, share knowledge, and help create a positive, learning-focused environment.

You'll be encouraged to keep learning, get involved in education and research activities, and contribute to better outcomes for patients every day.

About you:

  • You're a registered Enrolled Nurse with current AHPRA registration, ready to hit the ground running.
  • You've got solid clinical skills and know how to deliver safe, evidence-based care within your scope.
  • You understand the NMBA standards and put them into practice every day.
  • You're a team player who can roll with change and keep things positive, even in a fast-paced environment.
  • You work closely with Registered Nurses to make sure patients are exactly where they need to be.
  • Most importantly, you genuinely care about making a difference and delivering safe, meaningful healthcare every day.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $86,272 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $37.92 - $40.25 p.h
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
