Occupational Therapist (Homeless Health Outreach Team)

Provide Occupational Therapy services including assessment and interventions, for people who are homeless (rough sleepers, couch surfers, in emergency accommodation or escaping domestic violence). The position requires Occupational Therapy skills that can be used across a number of environments including outreach, clinic, generic mental health and physical assessment skills.

The Role

An opportunity has become available for an Occupational Therapist (Homeless Health Outreach Team) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Actively participate and contribute to the functioning of the multidisciplinary team to ensure high level clinical services are provided for consumers
  • Undertake routine generic mental health tasks including, but not limited to, mental health assessment, intervention and case management
  • Conduct community visits within the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service
  • Work collaboratively with non-government agencies such as emergency relief, emergency accommodation, housing, support and counselling agencies and other government agencies such as Housing, Police, Centrelink and Child Safety services
  • Develop clinical practice knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • A tertiary degree in Occupational Therapy
  • AHPRA Registration  
  • Driver Licence
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent full time
  • Base salary ranging from $79 051 - $116 189 per annum

The Homeless Health Outreach Team (HHOT) sits within Mental Health and Specialist Services (MHSS). The HHOT provides services to people who are chronically homeless with complex needs and diverse value systems and do not access standard health services. The HHOT provides education to the non-government sector to build their capacity within the sector to work with this clientele
