About the opportunity   

The role centres on delivering advanced clinical nursing care for women and girls experiencing pelvic pain and endometriosis, conditions that affect a significant proportion of the population and have substantial impacts on wellbeing and community participation. The Clinical Nurse – Gynaecology provides comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care at an advanced level within a complex clinical environment. 

Townsville Hospital and Health Service has been designated as the preferred site for a northern Queensland Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Clinic, improving access to timely, specialised care. Within this context, the position sits in the Women's and Children's Clinic multidisciplinary team and plays a key role in ensuring that all gynaecology referrals are triaged, actioned and progressed efficiently. This includes ensuring surgical cases are categorised and scheduled within clinically appropriate timeframes. 

The role supports earlier diagnosis, coordinated intervention, expanded multidisciplinary treatment options and clear management pathways. It also provides direct clinical care to gynaecology patients, contributing to improved outcomes and a more responsive, patient‑centred service.

Role requirements

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Driver Licence: This position requires the applicant to possess an appropriate license to operate a Class C (car) motor vehicle. 
  • Highly Desirable:
    • Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
    • Working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate advanced gynaecological nursing care for women and girls within complex clinical environment, drawing on highly developed clinical skills across women's health and paediatrics.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • Provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
  • Use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.

  • Salary range: $57.48 - $61.55 p.h. (NG6-1)
