This role provides all aspects of clinical care of general surgery and colorectal patients of the Gold Coast Health Service. It is also expected the Fellow will provide leadership and teaching to the junior members of the surgical department.

The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Surgical Fellow (Colorectal) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Advocate for the patient which includes educating and protecting the patient
  • Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals
  • Supervise rotating junior medical officers
  • Undertake rotations across various Queensland Health facilities and participate on-call

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • AHPRA Registration
  • Hold a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in general surgery (or equivalent overseas qualification) and be eligible for medical registration in Australia.
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Temporary part time (up to 12 months, 62 hrs p.f.)
  • Base salary ranging from $85.84 - $94.59 per hour

About Us

The Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service has a tertiary level Colorectal Unit offering a full range of services in colorectal malignancies and benign disorders. The unit services the entire Gold Coast area. A well-established multidisciplinary team that boasts a close working relationship with the other departments. The Griffith University (co-located) and Bond University have undergraduate medical schools and post-graduate research programs as well as a large private hospital and clinic facilities also available.

The Gold Coast University Hospital Colorectal team is a busy unit consisting of an CSSANZ and unaccredited Fellow position with a senior Surgical Education and Training (SET) Registrar and Principal House Officer (PHO). In addition, there is a Junior House Officer (JHO) and three interns to support the unit
