The role  

The role of the Staff Specialist is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients / clients of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.

The Gerontology Department currently provides a range of services that includes Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE), Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), Orthogeriatric Liaison, Community Geriatrics and a range of Specialist Outpatient Clinics.

With increasing number of inpatients as well as the plan to set up a BPSD unit, the successful applicant will lead an Acute Care of Elderly team to provide regular consultant-led ward rounds, lead MDT meetings and assist in developing a BPSD unit. The successful candidate will also be on-call and do weekend ward rounds on a rotational basis.

The staff specialist will be involved in delivering education and supervision to undergraduate medical students from the James Cook University, to interns and RMOs and to basic and advance physician trainees of RACP.

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements including:

  • Salary range: $103.80 - $131.61 p.h. (L18-L27)
  • 5 weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% loading

  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with qualifications in pain medicine and current registration and / or eligibilty for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Specialist Registration You will hold Geriatric Medicine specialist registration (or be eligible to hold) with AHPRA. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
  • Travel: this position may require the incumbent to work at other facilities within the THHS.
  • Aged Care Pre-Employment Screening: Applicants are advised this position works in an identified Aged Care Facility as per the Aged Care Act 1997 and therefore requires employees and volunteers to have a current National Police Certificate. Queensland Health will facilitate applicants obtaining the above National Police Certificate. 
  • All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee. All appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the CSCF for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken.
