The General Medical Service department comprises 12 medical units and provides medical governance for over 150 inpatients admitted to General Medicine across three facilities. Cairns Hospital, Cairns Private Hospital (RaDAR) and Gordonvale Hospital (GIMU). You will join your peers in providing robust education, supervision and training to 35 junior doctors (AT's, BPT's, RMP's and Interns) who rotate through the department each term.

About your new role: 

  • Deliver high quality General and Acute Medicine services throughout the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service
  • Participate in an after-hours on-duty roster that provides senior clinician review to acute and general medical patients within Cairns Hospital.
  • This position may require the medical officer to work a clinical extended hours roster whereby core hour shifts are worked outside of ordinary hours
  • Promote and contribute to development of alternatives to inpatient care
