We are looking for a Compliance Coordinator to join our high performing team in Invasive Plants & Animals:
The Compliance coordinator will undertake compliance activities according to and contribute to the continuous improvement, review and implementation of, compliance strategies, plans and procedures and respond to and investigate alleged breaches of the Biosecurity Act 2014. They will manage a small team, including providing support in undertaking investigations and enforcement activities and in meeting Workplace Health and Safety obligations.

Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
As our Compliance Coordinator, you will provide investigative and risk management skills and support to help manage the impacts of invasive plants and animals in Queensland. With Queensland being affected by more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, your efforts will be integral in helping the government prevent, respond to, and recover from biosecurity concerns that threaten our environment and economy.
You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:
• Identify, respond to and investigate alleged breaches of the Biosecurity Act 2014 with regard to electric ants; and contribute to the continuous improvement, review and implementation of compliance strategies, plans and procedures.
• can manage your own work priorities, ensuring assigned tasks are undertaken promptly and meet the project deliverables
• are actively contributing as a member of a high-performing team, including developing and managing relationships with, and provide accurate high-level advice to, internal and external stakeholders.
• Employ a risk-based approach to assess and undertake a variety of compliance responses, including overseeing and undertaking risk assessments in accordance with policies and procedures.
There are some requirements that we see as essential. You must possess:
• Physical fitness, as this role may require walking long distances through challenging terrain in tropical environments.
• A current “C” class drivers' licence.
This role requires the leadership competencies of a team leader, such as listening attentively and proactively seeks to understand others' needs by asking questions and clarifying. You will be able to recognise the broad value and contribution that diversity of viewpoints brings to the team and organisation and demonstrate the ability to analyse data and create innovative solutions to improve service delivery.
You will demonstrate sound governance, by maintaining a high standard of practice through governance and risk management and analysing data to identify risks to project activities and empower others to incorporate risk management into planning.
You will demonstrate you can administer and apply legislation and regulation and understand the legislative, regulatory and policy requirements relevant to the role and take appropriate and proportionate compliance action.
