  • Infectious organisms
  • Lead
  • Asbestos
  • Other occupational health hazards

About the role

The Principal Advisor (Occupational Hygiene) role provides expert professional advice on legislative, scientific and technical issues, in relation to occupational hygiene, to the OIR and its internal and external clients, to promote the effectiveness of the Workplace Health and Safety Program and compliance with workplace health and safety legislation.

Mandatory requirements

You must hold the following to be considered for this role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in occupational hygiene from a recognised institution, and
  • Full membership with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) or international equivalent.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on professional, scientific, and technical issues relating to occupational hygiene.
  • Provide specialist input to the development of relevant legislation, information products, policies, and enforcement activities.
  • Represent OIR on internal and external committees and other forums to provide professional, scientific, and technical advice on occupational hygiene safety issues.
  • Actively contribute to the effectiveness of the Queensland workplace health and safety program through the identification and development of innovative solutions to reduce risk of occupational hygiene related illnesses.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate education and training programs related to occupational health and hygiene which will increase the engagement of stakeholders.
  • Assist workplace health and safety regional officers through the provision of expert technical advice, input into audits and specialised projects.
  • Produce reports and conduct reviews of technical information arising out of occupational hygiene related serious workplace incidents, appearing as an expert witness in courts of law where necessary.
