The successful applicant will have expertise in inclusive education; instructional and strategic leadership; data-driven decision making; high-level communication & relationship building; organisation & resource management.

About us

Railway Estate State School
Railway Estate State School is a Prep-Year 6 primary school in inner-city Townsville with approximately 180 students. As part of the Wulguru Cluster Special Education Program, the school has a strong focus on inclusive education, modern learning environments and collaborative practice. This setting offers valuable opportunities to build capability while supporting diverse learners within a connected school community.

Woodstock State School
Woodstock State School is a small rural primary school located around 40 km west of Townsville, serving approximately 50 students from surrounding communities. With multi-age classrooms and strong community involvement, the school offers a supportive team environment and the opportunity to broaden professional experience in a close-knit country setting.

About the Role

You will join a supportive and inclusive team, working with experienced leaders and supportive school community.

As the Head of Special Education Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate high-quality advice and support from the Special Education and Early Childhood Development Programs.
  • Lead and manage these programs, providing advice to classroom teachers for students with disabilities as needed.
  • Offer high-quality advice to school leadership and staff to plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate and provide targeted teaching for students needing intervention.
  • Provide and coordinate case management for students requiring significant adjustments.
  • Support staff in accessing specialist services and professional development.
  • Engage in school decision-making and professional development to contribute to school goals and vision.
  • Implement and manage school-wide systems to monitor and record the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability.
  • Form partnerships with parents, government agencies, and community groups to support students with disabilities.
  • Manage human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources to achieve goals.
