As the Farm Supervisor - Technical, you will support a diverse range of research projects by accurately operating, adjusting and calibrating plant and equipment, including fertiliser and chemical application equipment, tillage machinery and specialist research equipment. You will carry out a wide range of agronomic activities such as land preparation, irrigation installation and operation, planting, harvesting, chemical application, and the care and maintenance of tree, field and grain crops.
You will provide technical trial support, advice and services to DPI, universities and external clients to ensure the successful delivery of trials at the Ayr Research from the Facility Manager and researchers to complete tasks efficiently, while liaising with clients to plan activities and allocate resources effectively.
The role contributes to the development and delivery of the Ayr Research Facility's strategic plans and milestones, while managing farm support staff and casual employees in accordance with DPI policies and procedures. You will also provide technical and operational support to maintenance programs for heavy plant, vehicles, equipment, infrastructure and land assets, ensuring all assets are research‑ready, safe, reliable and fit for purpose.
You will demonstrate initiative, accountability and attention to detail by completing tasks accurately and to a high standard, building strong working relationships with colleagues and clients, and working in accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation and the Department's Code of Conduct. The role requires a strong commitment to scientific integrity through strict adherence to research protocols and quality assurance principles, as well as the effective use of administrative systems and software to support site operations and reporting.
