The Child Safe Organisations (CSO) division leads the implementation and enforcement of the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme in Queensland. We promote child safety and wellbeing by delivering evidence-based regulatory practices, supporting organisations to meet their safeguarding obligations, and strengthening system performance through data, collaboration, and culturally responsive design. Our work empowers institution decision-making and to create safer environments for children, amplifies the voices of children and families in decision-making, and ensures transparency and accountability through risk-based regulation, strong governance, and continuous improvement.

Regulations (Triage) team is part of the frontline of the CSO division, responsible for delivering core regulatory functions under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (CSO Act). The Regulations teams deliver functions across triage and risk assessment, managing directed self-assessments, facilitating information sharing, and undertaking compliance actions.

In this role you will have the following responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Undertake regulatory assessments to determine whether notifications come within scope of the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Schemes, validating critical information, identifying risks, responding to enquiries and managing referrals to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead the Triage team to manage all incoming public enquiries and correspondence (telephone calls, emails and mail) from a wide range of customers (at all ages), including vulnerable and distressed members of the community across Queensland on behalf of the Commission.
• Provide authoritative compliance advice and exercise sound regulatory judgement to undertake child safeguarding regulatory activities and make evidence based recommendations aligned to the CSO Act.
• Supervise and lead the team by allocating work to manage work value and statutory timeframes, guiding group decision making to assess evidence and risk, develop and mentoring staff, while managing capacity risks.
• Conduct quality assurance of team responses and enquiry processes through data informed reviews to ensure efficient, people centred service, effective conflict management, and the timely prioritisation, escalation and follow up of all public enquiries in accordance with the regulatory scheme.
• Identify and address barriers to effective time management by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to allocate or reallocate enquiries, where appropriate and ensure timely, helpful responses to the public and entities.
• Manage and monitor the CSO case management system, ensuring accurate, timely, proportionate, and risk-based responses to safeguarding concerns are supported by the effective and accountable administration of the regulatory scheme.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders in order to facilitate the provision of appropriate advice and effective implementation of the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct schemes.
• Apply contemporary regulatory best practice and drive continuous improvement by contributing to quality assurance initiatives across people, processes and technology within the CSO team.
