The Department of Education is seeking a skilled and compassionate Senior Social Worker to support young people with current or emerging involvement in the youth justice system in the Ipswich Local Government Area.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a targeted, community-based initiative focused on reducing youth crime and supporting improved education and life outcomes for at risk young people in Ipswich.

About Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre

The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre is a Department of Education school, operating inside the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. Established in 2001, it is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art school which reflects the Queensland Government's vision of supporting and promoting the wellbeing and capacity of young people in detention.

About the Role

Based at Wacol Youth Remand Centre, this role requires strong knowledge of community systems, inter-agency practice and the complex social and environmental factors impacting young people. You will deliver intensive, evidence-informed interventions to young people whose involvement in youth justice places them at significant risk of disengagement from education and challenges in sustaining positive education, training or employment pathways.

As part of the Youth Education Team - Interventions, you will deliver intensive case management for young people with involvement in youth justice, working collaboratively with schools, families and community organisations to address barriers and support connection to meaningful education, training or employment pathways.

You will play a key role in strengthening protective factors, reducing risk and supporting coordinated, multi-agency responses.
