This is your opportunity to work in the thriving regional centre of Bundaberg and the greater Wide Bay Burnett district. In the role of Senior Technician (Materials), you will undertake and report on mechanical and basic construction compliance tests, perform investigations and instrumentation calibration activities as well as act as a reference for procedural aspects of related test methods. You will also provide technical advice under the direction of the Principal Technician (Materials) to internal clients by analysing data and reporting project outcomes and findings.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Project manage the materials testing and investigation services related to the delivery of transport infrastructure projects.
• Perform specialist and complex tests, conduct specialist investigations, calibration, instrumentation, surveillance, and audit activities as appropriate for transport infrastructure projects.
• Undertake sampling and be a delegated signatory for general sampling as detailed in Departmental and National Standards.
• Provide technical advice to internal clients on procedural aspects of testing and investigation methodologies and draft test reports for routine project work.
• Provide input into the drafting of quality documentation including instructions, site safety plans, report proformas, and worksheets in accordance with WHS&E and NATA technical accreditation requirements, and departmental standards.
• Coach internal and external construction materials testing staff.
• Make recommendations to management on the purchase of consumables and replacement equipment, as well as assist in the commissioning of new equipment and systems.
• WHS is a key accountability of this role and successful applicants must perform WHS activities and responsibilities prescribed within WHS Standard No. 002 ‘Health and Safety Roles and Accountabilities' document.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• A current Class ‘C' Drivers Licence
• Diploma in Laboratory Technology
• It is a condition of employment that the successful applicant will be required to adhere to health monitoring protocols as directed by the Department in line with the 'Managing respirable crystalline silica dust exposure in construction and manufacturing of construction elements Code of Practice (Qld) 2022.
• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.

Desirable qualifications
• Possession of an Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Technology or acceptable equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution or registered training organisation is desirable.
• Recognised as a NATA signatory accountable for the veracity of Test certificates and Sampling Certificates in keeping with the departments Corporate NATA Accreditation.

Requirements of the role
• Demonstrates expertise and knowledge in the performance of specialist tests, conducting investigations and undertaking instrumentation activities for projects. Perform surveillance and audit activities in accordance with standards, procedures and processes.
• Demonstrates a high level of accountability for the execution and quality of results through professionalism, persistence, and transparency.
• Demonstrated ability in maintaining a high standard of practice through appropriate governance and risk management processes.
