About the Team
The Healthy Hearing Program is a state-wide interprofessional initiative within Children's Health Queensland, committed to the early identification, diagnosis, and support of hearing loss in all babies and children across the state. The program operates across multiple service areas to ensure newborns, infants, and children receive timely and equitable access to high-quality hearing screening, diagnostic assessment, and early intervention services.
The Healthy Hearing Program consists of various teams that include; Newborn Hearing Screening, Healthy Hearing Family Support, Childhood Hearing Clinic, Teleaudiology, Early Intervention and Community Hearing Screening, which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children may engage with during their hearing journey.
About the Role
The Advanced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker (Healthy Hearing) will work in collaboration with Healthy Hearing teams to promote and deliver efficient, effective, clinically relevant, culturally safe care with the aim of achieving appropriate patient outcomes as families navigate the hearing loss pathway. Your position will:
- Function as a member of Healthy Hearing Family Support, supporting a range of evidence-based interventions in a culturally safe, clinically competent, and effective manner. This includes triage of referrals, joint case management, care coordination, intake assessments, cultural aspects of assessment and treatment plans, cultural support for therapeutic interventions, referring to additional services as required, facilitating engagement to services and cultural support to families.
- Function as a member of the Community Hearing Screening team, working with families to facilitate access and engagement with screening clinics, and conducting hearing screens within scope of practice, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
