We are seeking a skilled Human Resources Consultant to provide expert advice on HR policies, procedures, and initiatives while supporting leaders and staff across the department. You’ll also provide accurate advice by interpreting legislation and directives, ensuring best practice HR outcomes.
To succeed, you’ll need strong knowledge of HR practices, workplace legislation and data analysis, along with proven skills in coaching, stakeholder engagement and HR systems.

The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is looking for a motivated and experienced Human Resources Consultant to join our HR Operations team. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality HR services that support the department's workforce and strategic objectives.
As a trusted advisor, you will work closely with leaders and staff to provide expert guidance on HR matters, including policy interpretation, workforce reporting, and operational support. You will also play a key role in mentoring and coaching HR Officers, fostering their professional development and capability.
In this role, you will:
Provide timely and accurate advice on HR policies, procedures, and industrial instruments.
Manage the HR Operations inbox, ensuring enquiries are addressed or escalated appropriately.
Analyse workforce data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and prepare reports for management.
Collaborate with HR leaders to develop strategies that address training needs and improve processes.
Act as a mentor and coach for HR Officers, supporting their growth and development.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, promoting a culture of collaboration and respect.
Prepare high-quality correspondence, including briefing notes, submissions and reports on HR operational matters.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
A strong understanding of contemporary HR practices and workplace legislation.
Proven experience in providing HR advice and interpreting industrial instruments.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to analyse data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
Experience mentoring or coaching team members to enhance their skills and performance.
High-level proficiency in HR systems, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
