Working within the CHQ Research Directorate team, the position of Laboratory Technician will provide effective, efficient and professional laboratory support for the Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR). Assist with the coordination of the daily functioning of the Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR) research laboratory and the overall facility.

About the Role

In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

  • Provide a high level of technical and administrative support for the overall operational management of the CCHR laboratory. Provide assistance to laboratory users by operating, monitoring and maintaining the instruments, equipment and facilities of the laboratory
  • Operate laboratory equipment/apparatus, develop maintenance procedures, and schedule or perform maintenance on laboratory equipment, including incubators, centrifuges, fridges and freezers etc
  • Assist with asset register maintenance and annual stock take and acquire relevant quotes for equipment
  • Operate the autoclave to sterilise media, instrumentation, and biological hazardous waste. Conduct regular monitoring and maintenance activities of the autoclave, ensuring data is recorded in the relevant logs
  • Prepare chemical solutions of known concentration from bulk supplies including concentrated acids, maintain, review and update chemical stock register, perform annual chemical stock takes and ensure provision of current Safety Data Sheets
