What you'll do
As the Mental Health Act Liaison Officer, you will provide trusted advice on the Mental Health Act 2016 and the rights of people with mental illness, supporting the Chief Psychiatrist to meet key statutory responsibilities. You will build strong, collaborative relationships with senior mental health leaders, the criminal justice system, and government partners to support effective and lawful decision-making. The role plays a lead part in managing complex consumer matters, contributing to policy and education initiatives, and strengthening compliance and practice across mental health services to support positive consumer outcomes.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- Expert knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2016 and disability‑related legislation, with a strong understanding of consumer safeguards and the ability to manage complex workload demands to meet the statutory responsibilities of the Chief Psychiatrist
- Detailed knowledge of the mental health and criminal justice systems and how these two systems interact.
- High level analytical skills including the ability to analyse and develop mental health policy solutions to complex problems and provide high quality policy advice to stakeholders.
- High level interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to consult, negotiate and manage stakeholder relationships.
