As a Senior Data Analyst within the Business Intelligence and Customer Reporting (BICR) team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality data insights that support decision-making across employment, trade and vocational education and training (VET). Working closely with the Manager, BICR, you will design, develop and maintain performance reporting frameworks and analytical solutions that monitor trends, measure outcomes, and inform strategic planning across DTET. This role operates across both the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) and the Customer Reporting team. You will contribute to the transformation of legacy systems and help build modern data platforms that manage large volumes of VET data into the EDP.
Within the Customer Reporting team, you will respond to ad-hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders, delivering accurate, timely and actionable insights.

The Data and Analytics unit is responsible for leading the work of data collection, data management and data analysis within DTET. This involves both internal and external data sources pertaining to the topics of employment, trade and training. Different data sources require skills and knowledge in varying technologies such as SQL, Excel, Microsoft Fabric, Crystal Reports, SAS Enterprise Guide etc. Data and Analytics also plays a key role in supporting the rest of DTET in collating and managing their data sources and understanding and locating what data is available. This collaborative team values continuous development, creative thinking, and well-developed communication skills.
About the role
As the Senior Data Analyst you will
• Extract, analyse, interpret and present complex data sets for distribution to meet on-demand requests and annual reporting requirements for internal and external clients.
• Develop and maintain data collection processes aligned with departmental standards and procedures.
• Provide technical support and expert advice to staff on data-related projects, including the appropriate use, interpretation and presentation of data.
• Maintain knowledge of best practice data management techniques to ensure data presentation and sharing meet customer needs.
• Liaise with departmental officers, other government agencies and the broader community to manage expectations, understand user needs and identify opportunities for data sharing.
• Prioritise business requirements in partnership with the leadership team of Data and Analytics.

• The ability to manage the collection, extraction, analysis, interpretation and reporting of complex data sets in a cloud-based environment, ensuring high standards are met within tight timelines.
• The ability to lead and mentor team members maintaining professional interactions with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
• High-level oral and written communication skills to deliver analysis and visuals for reports, research papers, Ministerial documents, briefing papers and other materials, while fostering evidence-based policy development through an understanding of the audience and tailoring communication style appropriately.
