A vacancy currently exists for a Principal Inspector (Dive). This position can be located in either Mackay or Airlie Beach. Field work will be conducted in the Whitsundays region and North Queensland. Use of a government vehicle will be included. The Regional Office is based in Mackay.
To be successful in this role you will need:
- Knowledge and experience of the marine tourism industry
- A professional diving qualification is highly desirable but not required to perform this role
- Experience in the recreational sectors of diving and snorkelling would be beneficial

As the Principal Inspector (Dive) you will work as part of a team to improve health and safety in Queensland workplaces.
About the team
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) enforces work health and safety laws, educates workplaces on ways to comply with legislation, investigates workplace fatalities and serious injuries, prosecutes breaches of legislation and educates employees and employers on their legal obligations.
We're responsible for improving work health and safety in Queensland and helping to reduce the risk of workers being killed or injured on the job.
Your key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities are outlined in the position description for this role but generally, you'll have strong written, time management and stakeholder engagement and management skills. Experience in applying workplace health and safety protocols in community enforcement or other such regulatory enforcement would be highly regarded.
This role will challenge and develop your ability to engage with stakeholders, partner and educate the community in safety matters and ensure compliance within a regulatory framework.
You'll be part of the solution to keep Queenslanders safe at work and see the direct impact of your role in the community.
