About the role

The Provisional Fellow (Registrar) in Anaesthesia is a senior training role focused on consolidating advanced clinical skills and preparing the trainee for safe, confident transition to independent specialist practice. Working within a large, complex tertiary environment, the Provisional Fellow will manage a broad range of elective and emergency cases across multiple surgical specialties, with increasing clinical autonomy under consultant supervision.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
  • Provide specialist anaesthetic, analgesic and related services for patients undergoing elective and emergency procedures at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital including obstetric patients.
  • Undertake anaesthetic outpatient consultations, pre-operative assessments and consultations and other specialist services as required.
  • Assist in educational activities for both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, as appropriate for a teaching hospital of the School of Medicine, University of Queensland. You are required to be responsible for the practice of trainee anaesthetists and junior medical staff, to assist in their professional development and to be appropriate role models for them.
  • Keep records which meet the standards required by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and Metro North Hospital and health Service.
