About us:

Rockhampton Hospital sits at the heart of Central Queensland, right in a region known for its laid‑back lifestyle, riverfront views, and easy access to everything from the Capricorn Coast to the outback. As the largest hospital in the area, we're the primary referral hub for communities across CQ and a key part of the Destination 2030: Great Care for Central Queenslanders vision.

Our Operational Services team helps keep this busy hospital moving every day - delivering meals, supporting patient transport, and maintaining clean, welcoming spaces for everyone who comes through our doors. It's a behind‑the‑scenes crew that helps make great care possible in a region we're proud to serve.

About the role:

  • Deliver essential behind‑the‑scenes support across porterage, cleaning, food services, linen and waste management.
  • Communicate confidently with staff at all levels, helping services flow seamlessly and supporting the hospital's bigger-picture goals.
  • Take on hands-on tasks using portable equipment and stay active throughout your day in a role that keeps you moving.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment by juggling priorities, staying organised and keeping calm when things get busy.
  • Learn on the job through a supportive buddy system, with the chance to grow into mentoring and guiding new team members as your experience builds.

About you:

  • No two days are the same when you're working behind-the-scenes to keep the hospital running smoothly.
  • You're someone who brings energy, reliability and a can-do attitude every shift - ready to jump in wherever you're needed, whether that's cleaning, porterage, linen, waste management or general operational support.
  • Take pride in delivering quality work, following infection control and manual handling guidelines, and using PPE correctly to keep yourself, your team and patients safe.
  • Most importantly, you're a team player who understands that the work you do supports patient care in a big way - even if you're not on the clinical front line.

What we offer:

  • An hourly rate between $40.22 - $42.91 p.h. (Including 25% casual loading)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution

Additional Benefits:

  • Ongoing Professional Development and Education Opportunities
  • Flexible Work-Life Balance and Variety
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements:

It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases as listed on the Role Description.

How to apply:

To apply, please submit the following:

  • Your current CV or resume, including referees.
  • A cover letter (1-2 pages) addressing how your experience, skills and values align with the key responsibilities and expectations outlined in the Role Description.
