The Principal Data Scientist, within the Projections and Analytics Team, supports statewide health service planning for Queensland Health by delivering advanced analysis, demand projections, service planning analytics and modelling to inform service planning and system‑level planning decisions.

Your Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development, review and evaluation of statewide health service plans for Queensland Health through high‑quality research, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Extract, manage and analyse large and complex health and health service delivery datasets using advanced analytical tools (e.g. Posit/R, Python, SQL, Power BI) and communicate findings to inform decision‑making.
  • Develop, maintain and apply service planning and demand modelling tools, including the Projected Healthcare Demand model and medium‑ to long‑term health service projections.

Role fit

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Ability to source, critically analyse and interpret data and research including both qualitative and quantitative information to inform health service planning.
  • Highly specialised data manipulation and analysis skills to enable data transformations and complex analysis, including building advanced algorithms and statistical models.
  • Experience in using on-premise or cloud-based data integration, analytics and reporting technologies, including but not limited to Azure, SQL Server, R Studio/ Posit Workbench, Power BI, Qlik, and/or Tableau.
