As the Principal Data Analyst, you will lead the development and application of advanced quantitative modelling to support Anticipating Future Skills (AFS) and other future focused programs on behalf of Jobs Queensland. The position focuses on analysing labour market dynamics, workforce capability, and industry change using rigorous statistical and econometric approaches.

You will design and apply models that move beyond descriptive reporting to provide explanatory and predictive insight, including forecasting workforce demand and supply, assessing structural trends, and exploring system-wide interactions between skills, productivity, and economic outcomes.

You will operate in an industry-government environment working across administrative, survey and emerging datasets, the role will contribute to strengthening the analytical foundations of AFS and informing its future evolution.

About the role
As the Principal Data Analyst, you will:
• Lead the design and delivery of advanced statistical and quantitative modelling, including time series analysis and forecasting of labour market and workforce trends.
• Develop and apply econometric and statistical models to understand relationships between workforce capability, industry structure and economic performance.
• Undertake geospatial and regional analysis to identify place-based workforce dynamics and variation in skills demand.
• Integrate multiple data sources to develop coherent, policy-relevant modelling frameworks.
• Translate complex modelling outputs into clear, evidence-based advice for senior decision-makers.
• Contribute to methodological improvement and innovation across Anticipating Future Skills, including identifying opportunities to extend modelling capability over time.

What we are looking for
The position requires an applicant who has:
• Experience applying time series analysis, forecasting or econometric techniques to analyse trends and drivers over time.
• Strong grounding in statistical methods and quantitative reasoning, with the ability to select and justify appropriate modelling approaches.
• Experience working with complex, real-world datasets (e.g. labour market, economic, administrative or longitudinal data).
• Ability to move from data to insight and explanation, not just description or visualisation.
• Sound judgement in balancing methodological rigour with practical policy application.
