About Us
The Medical Oncology service at Gold Coast University Hospital provides comprehensive services to adults with solid malignancies across both curative and palliative treatment settings. The service encompasses outpatient clinics, ambulatory systemic therapy, inpatient care, and clinical trial involvement.
In 2024, the (OASIS) clinic was established as a Nurse Practitioner (NP)-led rapid access service. OASIS bridges the gap between emergency department, inpatient, and outpatient care by offering same-day assessment and management of acute cancer- and treatment-related presentations. The service supports admission avoidance through timely intervention, safe ambulatory care, and step-down pathways for inpatients requiring ongoing but lower acuity management (e.g. daily infusions, monitoring, or steroid therapy).
The OASIS model is embedded within the Specialist Cancer Nursing Team (SCNT) and works in close collaboration with medical oncology inpatient and outpatient teams, the day unit, palliative care, emergency services, and allied health. Core aims include reducing avoidable emergency department presentations, improving patient experience, strengthening integration across care settings, and ensuring sustainability of oncology services within the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service.
