An exciting temporary opportunity is available for an experienced and innovative educator to join the leadership team at Harristown State High School as Head of Department - Science.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to build a positive, cohesive team culture focused on shared responsibility, continuous improvement and a collective commitment to student achievement.

This key leadership role will drive excellence in teaching and learning across the Science faculty, support staff development and lead strategic improvement to maximise student achievement and engagement.

About the Role

As Head of Department - Science you will lead curriculum, teaching and assessment across Science subjects, ensuring high-quality instruction, consistent planning, and strong student outcomes.

  • The role includes coaching and developing staff, analysing student data to guide improvement strategies, overseeing assessment and moderation processes, and maintaining safe and compliant laboratory practices.
  • The role coordinates resources and budgets, supports differentiated and evidence-based teaching approaches, and contributes to whole-school improvement priorities through clear communication and collaborative leadership.
  • The role requires strong science teaching expertise, instructional leadership capability, data-informed decision making, and effective staff coaching and organisational skills.

    Your Responsibilities
  • Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
