About the Cleveland Youth Detention Medical Centre:

Cleveland Youth Detention CYD Health Services (CYDHS) is a primary health care service, supplemented with GP's and other specialist services.

CYDHS is part of the Women's and Children's Service Group within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and located in the suburb of Belgian Gardens, approximately 10km from the Townsville University Hospital.

CYDHS covers a large geographical area, accommodating both males and females in separate unit sections.

CYDHS staff are subject to security and safety requirements of the Detention Centre. The Townsville Hospital has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Youth Justice and Victim Support and is represented by the Queensland Health Nurse Unit Manager onsite. Staff are to familiarise themselves with the orientation and induction to the facility incorporating youth detention induction requirements.

Competitive salary and benefits:

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.

  • Salary range: $55.07 to $70.64 p.h casual rates (NG5)

About your opportunity:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing primary health care to the young people within the youth detention setting. Responsibilities include medication administration, health assessments and education, health screening, chronic disease care, responding to emergencies and working within a multidisciplinary team to provide equitable and safe care.

The purpose of the Registered Nurse is to deliver timely holistic client care according to scope of practice, within a primary health care model in a detention health setting as prescribed by policy, clinical standards, clinical guidelines and protocols, workplace instructions and the Youth Justice Act 1992.

Requirements:

  • Mandatory qualifications and proof of registration (AHPRA).
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
