Additionally, you will be responsible for creating, enhancing, and maintaining strategies, processes, and compliance capabilities to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

About the Role:
The Financial Advisory Services Unit (FAS) provides comprehensive support, advice, and transactional services to Queensland public schools. FAS specialises in delivering financial management advice, capability building, and support to Principals and Business Managers. These services ensure that resourcing and investment decisions are sustainable, equitable, and aligned with improved student learning outcomes. Key areas of support include budgeting, forecasting, financial performance reporting, and guidance on compliance with relevant policies, processes, and systems.
Responsibilities Include:
The position requires a comprehensive understanding of financial management practices that impact schools and includes responsibilities such as:
- Managing and supporting a diverse range of financial and administrative tasks. These include processing purchase orders, managing assets, conducting stocktakes, organising training sessions, overseeing school finance processes, arranging travel, ordering furniture and stationery, and managing printing. This requires proficiency in systems such as Agresso/OneSchool, SAP, Excel (including VBA), and Power BI (DAX, M), with an emphasis on enhancing efficiency, ensuring compliance, and demonstrating self-directed learning and adaptability.
- Conducting detailed analyses of clients' financial management practices and performance to provide informed advice on emerging issues and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Offering expert guidance and support to senior officers and clients on financial management, accountability, and the implementation of financial, budgetary, and operational strategies that comply with relevant standards, legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Monitoring clients' financial management competencies to deliver tailored training, coaching, and development programs related to internal budgeting, financial management, and the effective use of systems.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the achievement of organisational and client goals within set frameworks and deadlines.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- A strong understanding of contemporary financial management issues and strategies relevant to schools.
- Proficiency in analysing and interpreting school financial management systems, including Agresso and OneSchool Finance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence client behaviour and drive positive change.
- Proven leadership and management capabilities to successfully deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Department of Education financial policies, procedures, and audit requirements.
- Ad hoc data reporting.
- Ability to problem solve individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to deliver despite competing priorities.
- Understanding of school operations.
- OneSchool knowledge is a mandatory requirement.
- PowerBI and SAP would be an advantage and Basic statistics knowledge.
