Reporting to the Manager, Office of the Deputy Director-General, HWD, the Briefing and Liaison Officer provides high level support, management and coordination of incoming and outgoing correspondence for the Health Workforce Division (HWD), and operates as a liaison between the HWD branches, Office of the Deputy Director-General and other internal and external stakeholders. The position also provides leadership in correspondence and records management for the division.

What you'll do

As the Briefing and Liaison Officer, you will autonomously manage the assignment, tracking and reporting of all incoming and outgoing correspondence for HWD, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes. You will prepare, collate and edit correspondence and advice, and coordinate the development of briefing notes, discussion papers and submissions for HWD, senior executives, Cabinet and Parliamentary Services, and key government stakeholders, including the Minister and Department of the Premier and Cabinet. In this role, you will ensure consistency of advice by resolving conflicting information and aligning outputs with Government policy and departmental objectives, while liaising and consulting with senior managers and staff across the Department to meet deadlines and maintain strong working relationships. You will also review and improve records management and correspondence systems, maintain departmental recordkeeping practices, and support the delivery of training and guidance to staff on correspondence and records management requirements.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated experience managing high-volume correspondence, including briefing notes, ministerials and questions on notice
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
  • Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in high-pressure, deadline-driven environments
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail, able to prioritise workloads, meet strict deadlines and deliver quality, accurate documentation while exercising tact and discretion
